This course is part of the Information Security Degree and Network Security Certificate.

This class will entail an in-depth study of host security issues when dealing with Microsoft Windows operating systems. The primary focus will be Windows XP, Vista, and Server 2003.

Students will gain an understanding of how Windows works underneath the hood, and will be introduced to how Windows processes can be tracked and monitored.

Topics Covered Include:

  • Best practices for configuring workstations and maintaining workstation integrity
  • Computer deployment plans
  • Configuring security policies for Windows systems
  • Configuring TCP/IP for enhanced security
  • Dealing with security incidents
  • Installing and configuring host-based intrusion detection systems
  • National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) procedures and resources
  • Performing security audits of Windows systems
  • Tools to analyze and implement security measures on a Windows system
  • Trojans, Worms, Spyware, Adware, and preventative/reactive measures
